Description
Bring a piece of Cornish history into your home. This original mixed media painting captures the historic Wheal Uny Tin Mine near Redruth, Cornwall.
The Artist’s Vision
I can see the two iconic engine houses of Wheal Uny right from my house. This local view inspired me to explore a new style. I wanted to truly capture the deep, historical feeling of the mine.
The Technique
This piece marks an exciting first in my artistic journey. It is my very first watercolor painting using Gesso. I also chose a limited color palette, focusing mainly on rich Indigo.
By using the Gesso technique, I carefully remove layers of paint. This process reveals a beautiful, rugged texture. Because Indigo is a staining color, hints of the pigment remain in the grooves. This enhances the textured look, perfectly mirroring the weathered stone of Cornish heritage.
